Western Electric 302 1948
This is my antique land line phone made in 1948 by Western Electric. This picture is 2018 so it's 70 years old now. I just replaced the brown cloth covered cables that were frayed this week. I chose Western Electric green for the replacements. We really used cloth covered Western Electric green cords in the central offices as 1/4" tip/ring patch and test chords. The finger dial plate has seen better days. I can get a refurbished replacement at OLDPHONEWORKS. This phone works very well. The sound quality is very clear. The best I have ever used. It still has the original 1946 transmitter. A maintenance tip: remove the transmitter from the handset and shake it and tap it during cleaning. this keeps it working. I replaced the dialer with a new payphone type in 1975. The brass bells can be heard in the back yard or put on the damper and the sound can barely get to the next room. It's pulse only and it would need a pulse-tone converter do do any modern phone activity. For that I use my Plantronics CT14 Cordless Headset Phone with base station.
